Marina Users Society

Over the past few months The Cold Lake Marina Users Society has been working with the City to improve the level of service that will be provided to the boating public at the Cold Lake Marina this summer.  It appears that some progress is being made.  Some of the changes that can be expected are listed below.  There are still no services for day boaters other than fuel and the boat launch.

Lakeside Marine and Off-Road

Fortunately Lakeside Marine and Off-Road on the left of the main highway at the top of the hill as you enter Cold Lake North is a full service repair facility with a wide selection of boating products and this year they have added a selection of fishing tackle, supplies and bait tailored to Cold Lake fishing.

Security

The addition of security cameras, new gates to the docks with swipe card access, swipe card access to the berth holder's shower rooms, increased staff vigilance, enhanced lighting and a security guard are all in the works and hopefully will be implemented in time for the opening of the Marina in May.

Fuel

Repairs/upgrades to the fuel storage tank, lines and pump have been completed.  Fuel should be available this year. The City plans to add a second hose which will allow two boats to fill-up at once.

Cafe

The cafe which replaced the tackle shop is now open for business.  Expect increased congestion around the Marina building and lack of parking for boaters.

Marina Store

On 13 April 2009 the marina store operated by Hook, Line and Sinker closed for business and there is no word yet from the City of Cold Lake on whether or not there will be a replacement.  Cap'n Ronn strongly advises that if you plan to do any fishing or boating on Cold Lake, that you bring everything you need with you to the Marina when you launch.

Alberta Sport Fishing Licences

Alberta Sport Fishing Licences are not available at the Marina and the nearest place you can purchase a licence will be a 20 minute round-trip away at either Canadian Tire or "On The Run" at the Esso station in Cold Lake South.  The City plans to have a computer terminal available for the on-line purchase of fishing licences, but it will only be available when the office is staffed.

Other Things No Longer Available

The following is a list of some of the other items that are so important to an enjoyable day on the water that will no longer be available at the Marina:

Ice (blocks & cubes)

Fishing Tackle

Bait

Soft Drink Vending Machines

Marine products such as oil, lubricants, bolts, screws, minor boat repair parts.

Motor boat rentals

Cap'n Ronn will keep an eye on developments and will update this page as information is made available by the City of Cold Lake.
